Zombie Wave removes the usual twin-stick problem: you do not aim, the gun does. What is left is pure positioning, and positioning in a top-down survival game has three rules.

Keep a circle, not a line

Moving straight away from a group works until the group is faster than you. What works instead is a circle: orbit the pack at a constant radius. Enemies on the inside of the circle bunch up and get shot; enemies on the outside stay out of range.

A circle also means you never hit a wall at speed. Straight-line retreats end at geometry; orbits end when you choose to end them.

Use the map as a second gun

Corners and doorways are free damage. When a wave funnels through a gap, the ones at the front take every bullet while the ones behind cannot reach you. Fighting in the open means every enemy fires at once; fighting at a choke point means one enemy at a time.

The counterweight is that a corner can trap you. Only use a choke point when you know the exit behind you is clear.

Distance beats damage

Between waves, the temptation is to stand still and collect yourself. Do not. Walk the perimeter, note where the next wave will enter, and put a wall between you and that entry point.

The most common death in this genre is being surrounded during the ten seconds after a wave ends, because the player stopped moving while the screen was empty.

Wave pacing

Each wave adds bodies and speed, so your safe radius shrinks over time. That means the correct strategy is front-loaded: clear the early waves fast, take small risks while the pack is thin, and keep the centre of the map open for the late waves.

If you spend the first three waves running to a corner and camping, you will have no space left when the fast ones arrive.

Aim with your feet

Even though the gun auto-fires, where you stand decides what it hits. Standing on the far side of a cluster means the bullets cross the whole group. Standing beside it means you hit two and miss the rest.

The practical habit: before a wave arrives, place yourself so the incoming pack is between you and open ground, not between you and a wall.

Three habits that end runs

  • Backing into a wall while shooting. You stop moving and the pack arrives.
  • Chasing the last zombie of a wave across the map. Let it come to you.
  • Circling in the same direction forever. Reverse occasionally; it breaks the pack formation.

A short drill

Play two waves where you never stop moving and never touch a wall. Then two more where you only shoot from choke points. Combining the two — constant motion, punctuated by choke points — is the whole skill of the game.
